What is Fajita Seasoning made of?
You can of course buy a fajita seasoning package, but let me tell you homemade fajita seasoning is so easy to make.
You will need:
- Garlic
- Cumin
- Smoked paprika
- Chili powder
- Oregano

Ingredients you will need for this Chicken Fajitas Recipe
Chicken: I use vegan chicken, but feel free to use your preferred type. You can use chicken strips, or pieces, or chop them up in the preferred size from chicken filets.
Seasoning and marinade: For the Fajita seasoning I use as mentioned above cumin, chili powder, garlic, oregano, smoked paprika and mix it with a good dash of lime juice to make a marinade for our chicken. You can be sure you have flavor in each and every bite.
Onions and peppers: regular onions is what I use here, but red onions are also amazing. For the bell peppers I use different colors, because it simple looks colorful and bold. Yet, you can absolutely use green, red or yellow bell peppers. Everything will taste amazing and will make a wonderful result.
How to make Chicken Fajitas
Prepare the seasoning and marinade
In a small bowl combine garlic, cumin, chili powder, oregano, smoked paprika. Add a pinch salt and pepper. Mix seasoning with lime juice and 1 Tbs oil, set aside.
Marinate chicken
You can use a freezer bag or bowl: add chicken, cover with fajita marinade. Let it rest for at least 5 minutes up to 2 hours.
Cook chicken
Note I have pieces, but if you have filets you have to chop them after cooking to make pieces or stripes.
Add 1 Tbs oil to a pan and wait until it is hot.Then add in chicken, cook for around 4 minutes, put aside.
Cook Vegetables
In the same pan add in in remaining 1 Tbs oil (if needed) and cook bell peppers and onions for around 7 minutes until done and delicious. Add in chicken and cook for 2 minutes more.
Serving suggestions
Serve chicken fajitas plain, with tortillas or rice and of course desired toppings like salsa, guacamole, sour cream, salsa.
Leftovers and storage
Leftovers are great for 4 days in the fridge. Warm them up in skillet on low temperature or oven.
